hope-filled day

What a hope-filled day! Barack Obama is elected US president. The first African-American president. A tangible sense of change for good. Everything becomes possible. This is the kingdom season in the Church year - reminding us that God's better world of love, peace and justice is breaking in and breaking out all around us, here and now. Obama's election is surely a sign of that hope-filled happening.

I'm with you on the hope, Ian, and Obama really looks like a man whose time has come - graceful, poetic and easy in his skin (regardless of its colour). I do worry, though, about the weight of expectation being loaded onto one man's shoulders - he's only a human being and he's taking on the presidency at a particularly difficult time. I can't help feeling that all those people in Kenya who think that having him in the White House will mean they get running water and electricity may be disappointed...
