mayBe weekend away: kites circling

Great [if rather wet] time with mayBe at our weekend away in the Chilterns: long conversations, walks, cooking outdoors, boules in the spitting rain, frisbee in the falling rain, painting stuff, footie match with a tennis ball, fish n chips, lunchtime pints, and on Sunday morning Eucharist under a blue sky, with red kites circling. Lovely to have various friends of friends camping with us. You can see more pics like these in the mayBe gallery

here comes the sun

Si Smith is doing a litle online interactive creative project thing for Greenbelt, and it's just gone 'live'... it's designed to be very simple and easy to get involved with and he's hoping that it'll take off a bit over the coming few weeks... you can go see it here... here comes the sun

try this improvisation [11]: tracing the sun

mayBe began its new cycle way of the sun this weekend. [This will also be our Greenbelt theme]. At yesterday's eucharist on South Park we worked with an idea from some words of Jesus in Matthew 5 - that the sun is God's gift, a gift without condition for all creation and for all people. In our improvisation we offered praise to God the Holy Trinity by following the path of the sun through the day and night. The pic shows us tracing the path of the sun - this is the sun climbing through the morning sky - with a meditation on the goodness of God and the benevolence of the universe.

fathers day: the carrier

It's father's day today. I made a card for my dad out of an old photo I have. He's carrying me after I broke my leg through being hit by a car. The accident happened the day before we were due to go on holiday. I think it's the summer of 1966, and our first family visit to the west coast of Scotland. Now dad has to 'be carried' by others - he's in residential care - and so the carrier becomes carried. Thank you so much dad for carrying me...

way of the sun: mayBe @ Greenbelt

mayBe has found its theme for this year's Greenbelt festival: Our thing in New Forms [3pm Saturday] will be called: way of the sun: a sacramental journey in darkness and light, following in the way, spirit and presence of Jesus of the Gospels.

And we have been asked to do a 'spontaneous act of worship' over the weekend which will be way of the sun: improvised: a flashmob event - an orientation towards Jesus the Son. Looking forward to it already! The pic is one I took on a walk with buddy StevieB last weekend.

flourish workshop no2

Last night was the second of the workshops called Flourish that I'm doing with Gail exploring how to live with imagination, adventure and generosity in times of uncertainty. It seems to be going very well and generating lots of thought and action. The pic is from a symbolic act that we are working with, thinking of the river as a metaphor for how we can live.

farewell Lawrence

It was great to be at a sold-out Twickenham yesterday for the Premiership Final. This was Lawrence Dallaglio's final game and the whole stadium - Wasps supporters, Tigers followers and neutrals - stood and applauded this great player off the field. Emotional stuff. As to the game itself: Wasps were just brilliant. Exciting, powerful, skillful and dominant. And my team Leicester? Again, like many times this season - and again against Wasps in a final at Twickenham - we were really disappointing, particularly in the first half. We seemed to be low on energy, skill, and desire. In the second half much better, and could have come close if Andy Goode had had his kicking boots on. But a great day - and massive good humour on the trains to and from the ground and in and around the stadium, with rugby supporters of all clubs in their team shirts. The pic is of Josh Lewsey scything through the Tigers defence for his try. Ouch.
